That lets it run without being attached to a motherboard, and be used for lots of other stuff.

This gearbox belongs to – I think it’s a turning lathe (more pics to follow). This room has no roof and rain has apparently washed down the rust into the oil, giving it an orange color.

Dieses Getriebe gehört zu einer Drehbank (vermute ich – weitere Bilder folgen). Der Raum hat kein Dach mehr und der Regen hat offensichtlich den Rost in das Öl gespült und ihm dadurch die leuchten orange Farbe gegeben.
